Create variants on assembly items

I want to setup variants to an assembly BOM. I want each variant to add a new component to the BOM. Can this be done?

Example: the original BOM is a garment with 2 customisations. I want to setup multiple variants where each one adds a new different customisation.

    Hi

    I have absolutely no idea whether this is possible, just a logical thought.

    Can you do nested BOM's?

    BOM1 = all components needed for both items.

    Then BOM2a contains BOM1 + the custom items for one variant.

    BOM2b contains BOM1 + the custom items for the other variant.

    I am interested in this as it is an area I need to look into in the near future for a client.

    Unless you create some kind of shell item that holds the variants and single items for each of the variants and then use some automated logic to replace the line item with the selected variant, I don't think that would be possible natively.

    Unless you already have, you may want to look into item attributes where you could define all the additional customization that can be set for your item.
