Restoring RMS Store Operations after catastrophic failure

Hi,

It just crossed my mind. Just want to prepare for the worst thing that could happen. In the event of failure wherein I have to reinstall the Windows OS, just by having the latest Store Operation database backup will save the day?

For me, these are the things worth nothing to be successful in restoring RMS:

1. RMS Store Operation version

2. SQL database version

What else should I take note? Please bare with me, I am new to RMS. Been working on it for four months now. If there is a link with a step-by-step procedure in restoring please share.

Thank you,

Koymackoy

    Hi Scott!

    Thank you for replying.

How do I re-exporting out the store database from Headquarters? I read the Headquarters Getting Started booklet, but I think the steps there are for deploying a new store.

    Regards,

    Hello Koymackoy,

    Thank you for your questions.

The biggest thing to do is to make sure that you are making regular back-ups of your database, and store them on an USB Flash Drive or moving them to a separate computer. This way, if the server crashes, you can quick restore the previous database and get back up and running.

Please note that we do not recommend making backup of the Store databases are restoring those if you are running a Headquarters environment, as if the store backup is missing transactions that were processed between the time the backup occurred and the backup restored, these transactions will be over written.

In a Headquarters environment, we recommend re-exporting out the store database from Headquarters in the event of a store database/server failure to make sure that the store database is a accurate and complete as possible.

    Thank you,

If you have any customized reports, memorized reports, custom label layouts, etc.   then I would also make a backup copy of the ms rms directory.  That way you have all the custom files.

Also if you have any addins -> make sure you have the installers for those.

    Step by step ->

    install RMS

    restore Database.

    Setup Admin Configuration settings.

Copy in custom reports, etc to the RMS directory.

Activate RMS if this is a pos lane.
