I have a problem, when i am trying to cancel the PO I am getting the below error message. Please suggest me.

Can you tell the steps you are performing to cancel the PO?

In purchase order > Receive tab > Journal > Product receipt journal > Select the GRN and click on the Cancel option.

So you are trying to cancel a receipt; not a purchase order. Have you checked if there is a pending invoice? If so, delete this one first.
If this is not the issue, have you checked if you have a customization in this area? Also, you can look at LCS issue search for possible known issues for your exact AX 2012 version.

In additional to what André said; can you also check below possibilities which could be the reason of this issue.
1) If more than one user are trying to do the same action in this order?
2) If answer to point 1 is Yes; then is that the other user has started the action to be performed but left it as incomplete?
Above two reasons are the common cases we generally find in ERP.

Thanks for your reply, I cleared the record in PurchParmTable after I tried to cancel the receipt getting same error.
You can search in LCS issue search for possible known issues and/or ask a developer to do some debugging to find the culprit.

I got the solution, after adjusting the item's on-hand quantity which was insufficient to cancel the GRN.
Example: Actual PO GRN was done for Item A with 10 Quantity.
When cancelling the GRN the item on-hand was 8, which was later adjusted to quantity 10. Finally the GRN has been cancelled by deducting the 10 quantity.
It's good that you have found the root cause and the solution.
However, the error sound some different meaning which MS has to take care of in order to display the meaningful reason going ahead... hopefully
you have to change on line details first and then change it on header details
