Workflow Maintenance tool, cross Forest users

Hello all

First time poster here, getting to grips with some aspects of Dynamics GP and the Workflow Maintenance tool.

I'm hoping a contributor out in the world can help me with some direction.

I'm using the Workflow maintenance tool, and I cannot seem to get users from another FOREST into my approvals workflow. Basically the following is happening:

- Dynamics CRM installed in Child Domain BOB, Forest C.

- All users in organisation exist in Parent Domain Gill, Forest A.

- One other Child Domain exists, Dave, Forest B.

- When I select users for my Workflow approvals from Domain Bob, same Domain as Dynamics GP, the user is found and appears successfully.

- However, when I select users from outside the Domain Bob (Forest C), who are in Domain Gill (Forest A), the Workflow Maintenance tool FINDS the user, but when I press OK, the user isn't actually selected.

Outside of this tool, LDAP lookups seem to be working fine and cross forest authorisations work as far as I can tell, because if they weren't we'd surely know.

I also found a Community post from 2015 October which hinted at similar behaviour when trying to associate a Windows account for a TRUSTED Domain:

“”Here is a quick update on this issue. We faced the same issue with our client about 3 months ago and had submitted a Microsoft case. After several back & forth session with different levels, this has been identified as a bug when 2 forests are involved. If it is 1 forest, multiple domains then there should not be an issue. However when there are 2 different forest, it will not select the user correctly in the User mapping and in the workflow setup. Dev team is working on it and may try to include the fix in the upcoming Sept End payroll update or the following year end update. Will be waiting anxiously on this fix.””

Can someone help me figure out if this is actually a relevant bug for my problem, because I just cant get my head around this behaviour I'm seeing.

Tom

Hello folks, anyone got any thoughts on this?

Basically is there a bug with Cross FOREST user selections\associations when using the Workflow Maintenance tool and perhaps the Web Client also. I've seen a post that suggests this was identified in September 2015, and someone commented on it early Feb 2017 to suggest its an existing issue.

Anyone got a point of view?

Anyone that still have the same issue? I 'm facing the same issue on one of my clients, and i'm wondering if anyone had any success with this 2 forests "bug" on MS NAV. Thank you!

If I am reading the issue correctly, it is likely related to the known bug # 92502 which remains outstanding today 02/20/2020.  We currently have an open support case with Microsoft regarding cross domain issues with Workflow and Active Directory.
