Field Level Security on SSN

(0) ShareShare

Hello,

Our customer has a requirement to hide the Social Security Number from certain users on the Employee Card window.  I tried to use Field Level Security to do so, but it says that it cannot hide required fields (which makes sense), but is there any way to accomplish this?  The users won't be entering new employees, just maintaining existing employees.

Thanks,

X

You can use Modifier to alter the window such that the ssn is not visible. Then, assign the modified window to only those users who should not have access to the ssn.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

We have tried this solution in GP 10 - as we make changes to the form to -Visible = False - it simply won't hold the changes. As soon as we click onto another field or close and save, it returns to the original setting. The Label is gone, no problem, but we can't have certain users see the actual SSN number. So even before we get to security settings, the form will not hold any changes. Any ideas?

    You're right, but I have a solution!

Move the field off of the form. Put a rectangular box in its place the same color as the field so that it does not look odd. Take the SSN field out of the tab order (I don't think this matters anymore if it's off the window)". Here's what mine looks like:

The placeholder rectangle's properties are shown - but just in case you can't read the picture, it's:

    Appearance: 2D Border

    BackColor System - Button Face

Let me know if this works for you.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
