workflow to compare value on case and customer

Is it possible to create a workflow on the email entity with a condition to compare a value on the regarding case, with a value on the contact/account to which the case belongs to? Both (the case and contact/account entity) have a lookup to a specific entity. I would like to check whether the two values are the same prior to sending the email.

    Hi Joe,

With (one of) the following custom workflow activities you might be able to get the values to compare:

I forgot about workflow tools i actually have it installed. So Query Value seems like a good option, but i cant seem to figure out what values I need to provide (unless Query Value doesnt work with lookup fields), i tried many combinations. So as mentioned, im looking to retrieve a value from a lookup field from the contact that's the recipient. The contact entity has a lookup field to a custom entity. I would like to retrieve the value of that field for the recipient(s) in the "To" of the email. For example, lets assume the custom lookup field is called "new_color", and the value can be either Blue or Green. I would like to run this query, and in the next step, have a condition based on the retrieved value (If Blue Then.. If Green then..).  The config below doesn't return anything. Any other value i tried for Filter/ValueAttribute2 fails with an error.

    Hi,

The field "To" is not a lookup field, it is a party list and can contain multiple values. so I don't think you can use this tool. For example, you can send the email to 2 contacts and one can have Blue color whereas other can have Green :)

You may be able to write some javascript/ web api to get the required field values and the chek/add your business logic.

    Hope this helps.
