MR 2.0 to MR 2012 RU5

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

This is a spin-off of another question.  Can MR 2.0 be upgraded to MR 2012 RU5 without using a data mart?

We started a ticket with Microsoft.  They actually have a tool for it as the issue is known.  It was a non-chargeable ticket.  Hope that helps!

I'm not sure if there is a necro policy, but I just wanted to add something to this thread as it helped me out.

In applying an update, some of our row definitions lost their link values.  I believe the following:

"The report has a reference to a dimension called Natural but this dimension is not available to company 0000"

Refers to table ManagementReporter.dbo.ControlRowCriteria column DimensionCode which holds values of Natural or Account in my table.

As others have stated, it's a roundabout way of telling you that you have empty or broken links in your definition.

I ran into the same thing (Segment_02 no less) and from reading other blogs and whatnot there was usually a mention of needing to "tweak" the reports upon the move to the data mart.

Basically, you have to go through each report and touch all the dimensions and get the correct references in them and resave.

I found that if I copied the legacy definitions grid into an excel spread sheet and then upgraded to the DDM, I could open the rows defs and copy the stuff saved in the spreadsheets over what got imported and the reports saved and worked fine.

YMMV but it should work for you.

Think I have found the article that gives more info on what your info above:

    mbs2.microsoft.com/.../kbdisplay.aspx

The only resolution I see is to call MS Support for a tool to diagnose and adjust?  I didn't see anything in the row def defined as "Natural"

Feel like we are pretty close though.  RU5 is working without a hitch now.  So, ideally we would like to get the DM up and running as well.

Thanks again for all of your help with this!

Took a look and didn't notice anything in the row def.  However, noticed that in the Dimension Value Set the dimension columns Account and Subaccount ID show nothing.  If you select (All) the sets show up.  The dimension shows "Segment_02" whereas in previously it was a dimension of "Subaccount ID".  Also when looking in "Manage Dimension Sets" it is blank.

This is your "main account" and it sounds like the name of it changed from Natural to another name in the data mart. It should be just editing the row definition, I think.

Thanks for the info.  We ran into an issue where one report (also linked to an Excel budget file) works with all detail levels except "Financial, Account, & Transaction."  Tried bumping up to a data mart to see if we could address the same error there (without a major scope change) but ran into another issue when running any report.

"The report has a reference to a dimension called Natural but this dimension is not available to company 0000"

Going to do some digging on that and will surely post another thread.

    Thanks

Thanks, just in case you didn't realize, it's pretty straightforward to use the data mart instead; I don't know that it adds much scope to change

We will move to it, but it wasn't in the scope of this current project.  Thank you for the answer.

The data mart is not mandatory but we anticipate it being mandatory very soon and would recommend that you use that option. Why are you considering not using it, if I may ask?
