Resource Capacity for an Oven

Hi,

This is my first post to the community, I have a client who needs to schedule capacity of their 4 paint drying ovens. Ovens operate 24/7 but bottleneck is the storage capacity. After paint process completed, parts needs to stay in oven for 6 hours and each oven can only store 80 pieces at a time. I would really appreciate if some one can point me to the right direction. Thanks a million in advance.

    HI

Can you try this way, Set up Route for the Resource as per your Run Time and Quantity. Under Resource Requirement Quantity field can you assign number of resources which can share the quantity equivalently and schedule accordingly.

Pls let us know your outcomes.

    Thanks

Thanks Nagendra, I am testing this solution using resource groups and it appears to be working. I'll update soon with my test results.

Thanks a lot for jumping in.

    Hi 4NEXTC,

You might consider attaching a calendar to the resource which has 480 hours a day ( max of 80 pcs at 6hrs) or 24hours a day at 2,000 % efficiency..this will give you an available capacity for the paint drying oven of 480 hrs a day...

Interesting concept, but let me explain the details. There are 4 Ovens, Maximum capacity of each Oven is 80 Pcs and parts need to stay in for 6 hours. Client wants to schedule production orders of 5 different items with quantities such as Item A = 50, Item B = 60, Item C= 40, Item D = 30

So the Run Time for Each Item is 6 hours, Oven Capacity is 80 Pcs but Order Quantity varies as the example above. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Just to clarify. If you want to produce itemA=50pcs, is the run time 50x6hrs=300 hrs or a flat 6 hrs for the 50 pcs?

    Thanks

Oven runs 24/7 its item should not remain in oven for more than 6 hours. So wether order size is 10, 20 or 80 it is going to remain in oven for 6 hours.

Oven capacity is the bottleneck and maximum utilization of its capacity is the goal. Your help is much much appreciated.

    Hi,

    You can try the following:

    1. Quantity based route. Start off with a "from qty"  of zero using one resource or oven. Next route will  have a "from qty" of 81, using 2  resources. Third route will have a "from qty" of 161 using 3 resources.Fourth route will have a "from qty" of 241 using 4 resources. Optionally, you can have 5th route with a "from qty" of 321, with no route lines attached.

    2. As for the operations process time, you might want to consider using set up time of 6  hrs only. This will result to a fix time of 6hrs regardless of process quantity.
