I am working with a client that has numerous order types and encounters back orders on products. They are attempting to manage their back orders and fulfill orders to "priority" customers. My question is two fold. 1. Is there a priority setting for customers so that they would get priority for fulfilling their orders? 2. What fields trigger the selection for fulfillment? Is it based on order date, promise date, create date? We are attempting to locate a solution so that we do not have to make drastic changes to their order processing, but want to be able to determine fulfillment on backorders.

There is a Customer Priority setting in AR Customer Maintenance on the Order Management tab that is used to prioritize filling backorders, however, its impact will vary depending on if Customer Priority Scheduling (CPS) is on or off in IN Setup | Scheduling tab. The OM User Guide does a pretty good job of explaing the order fulfillment process with CPS on or off and how Customer Priority contributes. I would suggest reviewing the CPS related sections of the IN and OM User Guides.
