Edit Phone Call Quick Create Form

(1) ShareShare

Hi,

I need to edit the Phone Call Quick Create form to add the "Duration" field but the form does not appear to be editable.  Is there a reason why this is the case or is there a way to edit the form that I've missed?

Thanks.

    Hi NJC1,

I was able to see the same behaviour on my environment.

Further more, there is a know issue with the quick create for activities. (Please refer - www.microsoft.com/.../readme.htm  - Quick Create for entities of type Activity always navigates to full create experience (268878)  )

If you have any questions, let me know.

    Regards,

    Vivek

    Hi Vivek,

Thanks for the reply - the form I want to be able to customise is the one that appears when I click on "Add Phone Call" from the "Activities" tab in the central pane of the Case form.  A callout box appears but only has the Description, Call With, Direction and Left Voice Mail fields on it.  I just need to add "Duration" to this form so that our support team can record how much time they are spending on each activity.

    Hi NJC1,

I see what you were trying to make changes to. I don't think that is the quick create form for the phone call activity. When I look into the phone call entity from customization, I can't see a quick create form there.

Also, I have tried to create a new quick create form and tried to use it on the case form but that was still not visible on the case entity.

So, it looks like that there is no direct way to modify the form you have mentioned in the above post. If I find any alternative, I will post it here.

    Regards,

    Vivek

    Hi Vivek,

Thanks for checking, I can't imagine why Microsoft decided to miss out such an important field and then not allow the form to be customised so we can add it in ourselves - it's realty frustrating as the new case form is great apart from that.

A customizable quick create form would be an excellent addition to the social pane. We would love to be able to set a follow up date on the Add Phone call quick create form for our sellers to use. This way they could just work out of one screen.

    Hi NJC1 and BENDWARD,

I can confirm that this is a known issue and we will allow quick form for Phone Call and Task to be customizable in future releases. I would encourageyou to send a product suggestion at  https://connect.microsoft.com/ and provide insight to the Microsoft development community about the importance of this feature for you, which might help further prioritize it.

In the meantime, you could look at the options suggested in the below community post and see if you can apply some as a workaround:

Let us know if this helps.

Thank you for using Microsoft Dynamics CRM Communities.

Nina - i understand you are going to allow customization but this does not address...WHERE IS THE DURATION FIELD AND HOW DO I ENABLE.  This needs to be resolved via hotfix ASAP.

    Hi Marc,

thank you for the feedback. I understand that this feature is very important for you.

As mentioned earlier, this is a known issue and we will allow quick form for Phone Call and Task to be customizable in future Releases. We don't have currently an ETA for this feature and further information about the design. Nevertheless, based on our experience and the current design, we expect that once these forms are made customizable, they will be displayed under Customizations > Forms and will be editable via the Form Editor. With this, you would be able to easily add the Duration field to the form as per your needs.

    Many thanks for your understanding.

I would strongly recommend you to send a product suggestion at https://connect.microsoft.com/ and provide insight to the Microsoft development community about the importance of this feature for you, which might help further prioritize it. Future more, if you find that the current design has a very strong impact to your business, I would suggest you to open a Support Request with CRM Technical Support at the following link - www.microsoft.com/.../contact-technical-support.aspx and one of my colleagues will investigate the request for your particular Environment and the posibilities for further escalation of the issue. If you do so, please refer to this Community thread in the Issue Description, so that my colleagues will be aware of our discussions and research up to day.

Many thanks for your collaboration in advance and for using Microsoft Dynamics CRM Communities.

I've implemented a workaround to issue described here.   The basic process is for the user to add a string at the start of the description that identifies the duration:  *#i-

    where: # = duration   and   i = duration type (h=hours, m=minutes)

    Examples:

    • 1 hr. duration- *1h-Reviewed system issue with client
    • 30 min. duration - *30m-Discussed Report Changes

Using a CRM Synchronous workflow auto-triggered on-create of phone call records the duration is set in real-time.  The following is an outline of the workflow process:

    • Evaluate the description field for the text pattern (*#i-)
      • Stop workflow if description does not start with a * character

    • Change Status of phone call to Open
    • Calculate duration value
    • Set Duration of phone call
    • Remove the duration text from the Description field
    • Change Status of phone call to Completed

To perform the necessary string manipulation, I used a Custom Workflow Plugin available free on CodePlex.

    Hope this helps! :)
