Reporting tools for Dynamics 365

ReportReport

Hi,

My company is currently using GP and considering to switch to Dynamics 365.  However, we would like to research about the reporting tools available in Dynamics 365, which could allow us to customize our own reporting.

Below are my research results for Dynamics 365 built in reporting tools, please correct me if I'm wrong:

  1. Account Schedules - similar to GP's management reporter that is based on row/column structure, which are not quite flexible.
  2. Microsoft Excel report templates - only 6 pre-defined templates and limited room for customizations,
  3. RDL (SSRS) reports - requires technical skills to develop reports,
  4. XML in Word - seems to generate statement type of report and not meant for financial reporting
  5. Power BI - mainly for dashboard presentations and not meant for financial reporting

In terms of third party reporting tools, is Jet Reports the only option? Do any of you know whether there are others available or what is the best tools for reporting?

Thanks for all advise in advance.

I hope you are referring Dynamics 365 BC, and the tools you mentioned are correct and Jet reports & Power BI are the most common external tools used for reporting but most of the clients use the standard reports available in BC and then customize them based on their needs using Word or RDL.

There are some other apps available on the app source like For NAV... please check the below link

    Hello,

Suresh's reply is spot on. In almost 99% of each BC Implementation, my customers have chosen Jet Report or Power BI or Both. Each will provide all the reporting needs you noted and then some. Both have samples provided to get you started quickly.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

May I know if Power BI is able to produce financial statement type of reports because most of the videos I found are showing the dashboard with charts features.

technically possible but difficult...Power BI is not easy to work with when it comes sub totals such as GP and then you will have the challenge of converting the chart or accounts schedule and here since COA is indented to define the parent child relationships you probably have to use some advanced transformation steps in a language like M

Thank you for the reply. That's what I'm thinking too because we are looking for a reporting tool that will be easy to use so that non technical users are also able to create own reports.
