Where attached files are stored in Business Central Online?

Hi,

Regarding attached file in Sales/Purchase documents in Business Central, I have some questions.

  1. Where the files are stored in Business Central?
  2. Can I get/post the attached file directly, not in Sales/Purchase documents?
  3. Is it possible not to delete the attached files with AL coding?
  4. I want to update the attached files when I upload the same name files in the document. The file contents and its attributed information, such as upload user name, timestamps, etc. are updated.

I want to use the attached files as proof documents for Sales and Purchase document creation.

Thank you

I'd also like to know if Power Automate can do this.  I've been frustrated trying to get this to work with Document Attachments 1173.

    Hi yohi

Thanks for sharing more info. My suggestion is that look into 3rd party app or to utilize SharePoint or Azure for that. This way you will have

    1) More storage space and you will not use your database storage.

    2) You will have more control over deleting

    3) Even you will have more control over who sees what document.

We use the following app which has some cool functionality. This is just to give you an idea. But you can do many of these through development.

    Thank you, ZHU!

    The link is very understadable.

I am not sure if Power Automate can get the attached files from Business Central.

Is it possible to get attached files from Business Central by Power Automate/Apps?

    Thanks!

    Thank you MahGah,

The business requirement is to prohibit the users delete uploaded documents and to keep those documents in Business Central with historical records: create and update.

Users can delete the attached documents from posted Sales/Purchase Invoice in standard BC functionality.  I need to stop the users to delete the attached/uploaded documents from Business Central.

    Thank you.

    Hi

    1) Files attached in your database and goes against in your database size. docs.microsoft.com/.../tenant-admin-center-capacity

      a) Of course you can use onedrive as well. See this  https://yzhums.com/17888/

    2) it depends on scenario but in new release it will have more function docs.microsoft.com/.../outlook-add-in-add-attachments-emails-directly-business-central-documents

    3) I do not think this is possible out of box. Unless you make a coding that require specific permission to delete files. Then not assign that permission to developers.

    4) You may need development for that.

What is a business need for that? I mean you have document creation date, email log, etc.

In addition, they are some apps (free) that let you do drag and drop and use Sharepoint storage such https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-us/product/dynamics-365-business-central/PUBID.insight-works%7CAID.d50afbbf-aff3-4dac-bce7-8686b375b994%7CPAPPID.d50afbbf-aff3-4dac-bce7-8686b375b994?tab=Overview

    appsource.microsoft.com/.../apps

    Thanks
