State and Local Taxes Payroll Trx Entry

I have 1 employee whose state (KY) taxes were not calculating at all (they were up until 2 months ago).  I manually entered a transaction and found that no State was defaulting in the Payroll Trx Entry window.  I went to Cards>>Payroll>>Tax, selected the employee and found that in the Transaction Entry Defaults section, Indiana was selected as the Tax Withholding State (this was not, however, defaulting onto the transactions).  I changed that Kentucky.  In that same section, they have a Local Tax Code selected as well, which had been defaulting on the Payroll Trx Entry window; I did not change this.  I created a new payroll transaction, and now KY is defaulting in for the State on each line I entered.  However, the Local Tax Code is no longer populating.  What am I missing?  Is there some relationship between the "Tax Withholding State" field and "Local Tax Code" field?

Thank you.

    Hi,

This is just a run down of what I would check.

    1. On the pay code, is the Local Tax checkbox checked?

    2. In the Employee Local Tax Maintenance window, is the Automatically Calculated checkbox checked and the Inactive checkbox not checked?

    3. In the Payroll Local Tax Setup window, are the Calculations, Sequence, tax rates and tax tables set up properly?

    4. In the Employee Tax Maintenance window, is the Local Tax Code filled out? I see you said yes.

I just created a new local tax code and assigned it to Pilar and also changed her state code to KY (from IL) and the build and the calculate came out properly. Did yours simply ignore the tax altogether?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

I missed the Employee Local Tax Maintenance window...that particular one had been marked Inactive.

    Thank you!
