Dynamics GP and SQL Server Licenses

Posted on by 18,265

Hello,

Current version of client is GP 2010 and SQL Server 2005. They already have registration key for GP2013. We are planning to upgrade to GP2013 and move GP database to new Server with SQL 2012.

My question is do they need to buy SQL Server 2012 license? Or we have to download it from customer source?

Thanks

Sandip

    Hello,

Can anyone tell me where exactly I can get the license key for the Runtime version in CustomerSource?  I know we own SQL Server Runtime  because I see it under Product Summary in CS but I can't find the actual key anywhere.

    Thanks,

    Greg

Harry is exactly right. SQL Runtime requires that you only have GP databases under that instance of SQL. As soon as you bring in any other databases that requires at least SQL Server Standard and the purchase of SQL CAL's.

Here is a link to a location, which has a ton of information about Runtime Licensing and links to download.  You'll need access to Partnersource - customers cannot download this license directly.

Depends on their licensing.  We tend to recommend SQL Runtime licenses for clients who aren't already using SQL for some other program.  This makes SQL part of their licensing, and covers it under their maintenance program.  SQL Runtime Exclusively supports accessing Great Plains via SQL. Otherwise, SQL and CALs are acquired by their IT department through someone like CDW.
