Multicurrency Transactions

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi all, newbie here:

There are 2 issues I am having with US$ bank accounts set up in Canadian companies:

1)      When I try to book a transfer from/to a US$ bank account (set up as a US$ GL account) to/from a CDN$ bank account (set up as a CDN$ GL account) between companies or within the same company.

2)      When I try to book transactions, such as bank charges, in a US$ bank account that is set up in a Canadian company.

For bank transfers between companies, I would normally use the bank transactions function, book either an increase or decrease to cash, and use the intercompany account as the offset.  I would do the same thing in the other company.  When I try to do this in the US$ bank account, it does not allow me to book anything in the intercompany account because the intercompany account is set up as a CDN$ GL account.   What I have done in the mean time is set up an equivalent intercompany account but as a US$ account and book the entry that way.  Is there another way to do this?

Also, how would I book a transfer from a US$ bank account to a CDN$ bank account within the same company?  I usually use the bank transfer function to do this, however it does not allow me to between US$ and CDN$ bank accounts.

For booking general transactions such as bank charges, I am also having difficulty booking to the bank charges account, again, because it’s set up as a CDN$ GL account.  How would I go about doing this?
