Online Exchange Integration with D365

Posted on by 25

Sorry if question Ended in wrong forum.

I have D365 online in one tenant and Exchange online in another tenant, Customer don't want to merge the tenant. All mailboxes will be using Exchange online tenant, and mailboxes are configured in CRM are only for Queues, no personal mailbox is used in CRM and will not be used in future. Users for login CRM are created as @orgname.crm.dynamics.com and licenses are assigned accordingly.

We now have to sync mailboxes (Queues only) with CRM but because both are in different tenant has become difficult to sync. As per MS documentation

(docs.microsoft.com/.../dn531050(v=crm.8)

Connecting Dynamics 365 (online) with Exchange Online in different tenant is not supported. I wonder how in rest of the world are connecting MS Exchange online and D365 online in different tenant or Organisations are forced to Move to single tenant, which i strongly feel won't agree with Microsoft Single Tenanat Strategy.

    Hello,

I don´t see a workaround for this scenario at this moment. As mentioned, Email Router or a Hybrid scenario (Exchange OnPremise) would be the only options.

    Thanks,

Thanks for your reply,  Definitely we are not the only one having this issue, there must be other clients having similar setup. I have had discussion with Support Team and the outcome was Dev Team is aware of this issue and planning to release something in Next quarter so that  Tenant to Tenant communication can be established.  I would like to know if there is any workaround to implement this. We can't move Dynamics Tenant to Exchange tenant.

RE: Online Exchange Integration with D365

    Hello,

As you mentioned, connect Dynamics 365 (online) with Exchange Online in a different tenant is not support. All customer that need to use Dynamics 365 Online with Exchange Online must move their organization to the same Exchange Online tenant.

Technically, this action is required to use the S2S authentication between D365 and Exchange: docs.microsoft.com/.../supported-email-service-configurations-server-side-synchronization

For the customer that would not move their org, there are other options like a hybrid scenario (Dynamics 365 x Exchange OnPremise), POP3/SMTP (Gmail) or even the Email Router component (this last already deprecated):

    docs.microsoft.com/.../integrate-synchronize-your-email-system

Server Side Sync is routing component available since 2015 and the only supported configuration for Online environments was to use S2S (D365 and Exchange under the same tenant), so many customer have been prepared their selves during this years to complete this movement.

Some years ago, the Outlook Add-on and Email Router could provide workaround for this design limitation, but now we cannot offer too many options here.

    Thanks for understanding.
