Purchase invoice: how to change global dimension for VAT entery only

Hi all

we are in process of migrating to BC from Dynamics GP

I'm doing a lot of testing before migrating.

One thing I came a cross in Purchasing invoices, if I create a purchase invoice and select a global dimension for the purchase invoice the same dimension value is selected for VAT entry

How can I change the dimension value for VAT entry only, as per below example I want to change 0301 to 0101 which both are global dimension values?

Hi

The native functionality corrects the dimensions in the general ledger entries. You may have to cancel or reverse the operation, or perform some custom development.

I'm ok with the correction but I want to be able to change the VAT dimension before posting the invoice

what custom mod do I need to look into?

Hello,

Steps to Correct Dimensions on G/L Entries in Business Central

You need appropriate permissions (like D365 Accountant or Super) to do this.

1. Go to the “G/L Entries” Page

Use the Tell Me feature (🔍 Ctrl+Alt+Q or search bar).

Search for "G/L Entries" and open it.

Find and select the entry you want to correct.

2. Use the “Correct Dimensions” Action

On the G/L Entries page, select the entry (or entries).

Click Actions > Functions > Correct Dimensions.

You may also see this as Process > Correct Dimensions depending on your version.

3. Update Dimensions

The “Correct Dimensions” page opens.

You’ll see:

Existing dimension values.

A column to enter new dimension values.

You can:

Replace a dimension value.

Add missing dimensions.

Remove unwanted dimension values.

4. Post the Correction

Click Post once your updates are complete.

A correction entry is created in the system, and the updated dimensions are now associated with the original entry.

📝 Note: This does not change the financial values, only the dimension metadata used for reporting and analysis.

Hi,

As per my knowledge, in Business Central, you cannot change the dimension value for VAT entries only while posting a purchase invoice using standard functionality. Dimensions are inherited from the document lines and applied uniformly across related entries, including VAT.

In standard Business Central, VAT entries inherit the same global dimension values as the purchase invoice header/lines there’s no separate dimension logic for VAT entries.

If you want VAT to post with a different dimension value than the invoice, you’d need a customization (for example, an event subscriber on VAT posting routines to override the dimension set for VAT entries).

Out of the box, you can’t do this directly. I’d suggest you reach out to your Microsoft Partner to design the customization so VAT entries post with the alternate dimension.
