duplicate detection rule "doesn't see" changing on no. of characters for a field

Posted on by 120

Hi all!

I have a question. I need to set up a duplicate detection rule for a custom entity. One field is an option set - matchcode 255 length, second field is text with 200 characters, which is too much for system (max length - 450). So I've changed no. of characteres in the text field to 180 and went back to duplicate detection rule. But there is no change - matchcode for text field is still 200 characters.

I've tried cleaning cache, restarting login, different browsers and nothing, detection rule "sees" this text field as 200 characters.

Could someone tell me why and how to change it?

    Hi Ann,

Seems this is  by design , I replicate the same in my trial instance its holding initial field length not the updated one .  Might be this is due to the existing data which can be available in the DB for the entity and its force to apply rule for those records as well.

    Hi Ann,

Read about it here - docs.microsoft.com/.../detect-duplicate-data

There is also a note around the match code which goes like this-

"After publishing a duplicate detection rule, increasing the length of fields that are included in the duplicate detection criteria goes undetected. The field length could exceed the matchcode length limit and not be verified. This may result in duplicates not being detected."

Trust me I had lot of time on this when  =I encountered this and ended up using the same first chracter logic. It worked fine, passed UAT and deployed to production :)

    Hope this helps.

I've tried all suggested actions and nothing works, except this with first letters, so I think I would have to use first characters rule.

The strange thing is that for some txt fields (with the same setup) matchcode refreshes without a problem after length changing on a field, and for some it doesn't work. Do any of you know how matchcode works for different types of fields?

    Hi,

The other option would be to change the rule i.e. instead of saying "Exact match", use "Same First Characters" and then enter no. of characters.

    Hope this helps

    Please do following step-

    - Unpublish duplicate detection rule.

    - Publish All customization.

    - Press ctrl+F5 browser to  refresh, you can also try in different browser.

    - Create new duplicate detection rule or publish existing rule.

Publish all customization and also publish duplicate detection rule.

    Delete old duplicate detection rule.

    1. original max length for a field:

    2. I've created on duplication rule for a field before changing max length:

    3. then I've changed max length for the field to 150 and published changes:

    4. then I've created new duplication rule - matchcode still the same:

I also created new text field and was changing max length and matchcode was changing along...
