How can I import custom entities from 4.0 to 2011?

With a fresh install of CRM 4.0, all I have done is taken our customizations.xml and imported/published it to the CRM. Afterwords, I did an Upgrade of 4.0 to 2011 and during the testing process after the install I noticed only a select few of my customizations have crossed over. crm50srvsetup.log says:

13:57:17|Warning| The solution cannot be imported because the cpdc_matter entity contains a Ribbon definition, which is not supported for that entity. Remove the RibbonDiffXml node from the entity definition and try to import again.

Has anyone else run into this situation and know what to do? We really would like to not have to rebuild all of our customizations to get to CRM 2011.

    Hi,

Sorry, i was not a member in 2011.

Personally, i would upgrade the v4 organization to 2011. (this can be done with the crm 2011 trial license if you wish to do this in a test env, check out the install guide for more information).

then export the customizations and import into your production crm 2011 server.

    Regards,

    Mark

I did try that of course. As long as that entity was there, it would not pass the SQL checks in Deployment Manager. The error was something to do with a datetime field and a COLLATE statement. That makes no sense at all and I did not find anything online were anyone had dealt with it before. I suspected this particular custom entity and when I removed it, the rest of the Organization imported correctly. Now I am faced with the prospect of getting the entity into 2011 some other route.

So the question remains, "How can I import custom entities from 4.0 to 2011?" Perhaps the answer is you cannot get there from here. (?)

There is no method for converting a some CRM 4.0 customizations to CRM 2011. The only method is to upgrade the database. If you had to delete a custom CRM 4.0 entity that had unsupported customizations that caused the upgrade to fail then you'll need to manually recreate the entity in CRM 2011.
