AX 2012 Fiscal Calendars and Fiscal years

Hello,

In AX 2012, is it best to create a new fiscal calendar for each new year, or is it best to create a new fiscal year in one fiscal calendar for each new year?  What would be the advantages/disadvantages of both ways?

I have received suggestions to do both options from two different consutants and was wondering if others have opinions.

    I would always make one fiscal calendar per legal entity (and perhaps use it across multiple legal entities if it fit).  I would populate all the fiscal years under that one fiscal calendar.  

    It doesn't make sense for me to do it any other way.  Think about the end of the year.  On 1/1/2013, you will want your shipping, receiving, and manufacturing departments to post transactions on 1/1/2013, while in 12/2012, your accounting team will still be making adjustments.  

    You can only have one fiscal calendar applied to a GL at a time (GL -> SetUp -> Ledger).  Having 2 separate fiscal calendars would prevent from posting in 2 years at the same time as in my example above.

    Thanks for your responce John.

    That was what I was thinking but wanted to see if there was any reason my first MS partner thought we should set it up the other way before I changed it.

    Dan,

    We also do the same as suggested by John because there is no good reason to create a new fiscal calendar for each year.

    Hi Bilal

    what if the fiscal period is attached with budget cycle time span ,

    from the back-end I can let the period end & start date editable & adjust & remove period

    the case that : we have change the fiscal period start & end from April 2015 to march 2016 to April 2015to December2015 & next year it will be from Jan 2016to December 2016
