Alternative Item Field/Table information

Ok, educate me.  I am entering part numbers into the "Alternate Items" screen from the drop down in "Item Maintenance" I have added three different part numbers.   Now it starts to get weird for me, as they show up under "Substitute Item 1&2".  That is somewhat weird but I can handle that.. sort of....  So I go out to iv00101 and it only has two places for alternate items which is strange because I added three and the system remembers three.  So I check for a table that might house these numbers and the only other table I can find is CT00102 and while it has alternate 1 and 2 only one of them is filled in.  I need to find out where is GP storing these "Alternate" part numbers, so please educate me.  Also, if you know why they are under two different names in the same area as far as users are concerned I would love to know that as well.

    IVR10100 | Alternate Parts

    One further helping note to consider, the support debugging tool is the thing that you should consider to find "resources" associated with certain fields, windows and much more.

    The two fields on the Item Maintenance Window , Under the option button (Substitute Item 1 and Substitute Item 2) are stored within IV00101, under the fields (ALTITEM1, ALTITEM2).

    Patrick,

    According to your description, it seems you are running some customization that allows you to enter such alternate items. This could well be an Extender customization in which case data may be stored in the Extender tables.

    You will want to check David Musgrave's article on querying Extender data at:

    blogs.msdn.com/.../creating-views-of-extender-data.aspx

    If you are still unsure, the best next thing is to setup a DEXSQL.LOG, then make a small change to one of the alternate items in question and check the DEXSQL.LOG to see what table it hit.

    Mariano

    Thanks for the info.  I am more of a power users put in a technical spot.  I've been here four years and I have yet to find the setup documents or any information on possible customization.  I know at least two different consulting companies and three consultants were used in the setup,but who they were is a question no one can answer.  I have basic SQL knowledge so are there any signs or hints that I can see to find out if customization occurred.  I sweated bullets when we upgraded to 2010 from 9.0 with the help of our current consultant.

    RE: Alternative Item Field/Table information

    I might have a saying in here in order to clarify few issues regarding the "Alternate Items" and "Substitute Items", which are differently handled by the systems Both are used to specify item substitutes, although, the follow are the key differences to consider.

    Alternate Items: which can be reached as follows;

    • Item Maintenance > select an item > Go To button >Alternate Items

    You can specify as many substitute items in this window as you want (unlimited number of substitutes). Those substitutes can be categorized as "informational" since they will not be "automatically" used by the system to be alternate original items in any process.

    Alternate items are saved in (IVR10100 | Alternate Items) table, (Item Number, Alternate Items).

    Substitute Items: which can be reached as follows;

    • Item Maintenance > Options > Substitute Item (1 and 2)

    Substitute Items entered within these fields, are considered as "Alternative Items" that will be suggested by the system automatically when the original item has zero stock. Associated modules that are included in this process: GP Invoicing, SOP and BOM.

    Helping Note:

    By default, when entering alternate items on the "Alternate Item Window", the first two only will be considered as substitute items (1 and 2), which will be used automatically by the system as explained above.

    On the other hand, when you enter "Substitute Items" directly from Item Maintenance > Options, you will get a warning message that "Manufacturing User should enter this substitute item in the Alternate Item Window", and still the substitute are saved in item master only.

    So far, hope this helps,

    RE: Alternative Item Field/Table information

    In doing some more digging, the Alternate Items window is a part of Microsoft Dynamics GP Manufacturing. The table storing this information is the IVR10100 (Alternate Parts).

    So no need to worry about customizations anymore :-))

    Thank you Mariano and Mahmoud for the education and clarifications.  I need this data for a report I'm developing in Crystal and I'm sure you saved me many hours of frustration.
