How to use multiple account structure in the budgeting ? is there any customization needed or any default functionality to achieve that?

My scenario that i have 3 different account structure for expenses only :

MainAccount-Department-Project  (Admininstration Expenses structure)

MainAccount-FixedAsset-ValueStream (Operational Expenses structure)

MainAccount-FixedAsset-Project-Worker (Payroll Expenses)

and i need to have a budget control for the previous 3 structures

    Hi ahmed.kimo,

You can use all of the financial dimensions that are included in your different account structures for budgeting purposes simply by selecting those financial dimensions in the budgeting dimensions setup form.

If you do not make use of the budget control configuration, there is no issue. Yet, if you plan to use budget control, then you can currently only select a single account structure that is used for this control. So you would have to decide which one to use and/or try to merge them into single account structure. An alternative would be making a code modification but this might be quite tricky as the Budget Control functionality can be used in many different forms and places in AX.

Is there any specific reason why you work with those 3 account structures and do you see a possibility to merge them into a single one?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi,

we should have a control for those combination as well how i can convince the client you should use only one account structure (think of it from finance prospective) , why i created like that because for each range of expenses must have those dimensions only ,if i merged in one structure to have a budget control then how i can have entry control as well ,

To make the thinks easy i will give you actual example :

for the operational expense structure i should have this combination :  MainAccount-FixedAsset-ValueStream

so i'm going to create a purchase requisition to purchase cutting machine for main valuestream so the combination in the transaction will be like this:

    AssetExpenseAccount-CuttingMachine001-MainValueStream

but if you have the full dimensions in the worker master who is request the asset , it will come by default to the transaction so if i have one structure how you can handle it ? it will bring project it will bring department it will bring worker dimension as well,

    Hi ahmed.kimo,

You are absolutely right. Yet, the current system functionalities do not support the use of more than single account structure for Budget Control purposes.

If you try to merge all of your account structures into a single one you have to specify detailed rules for the different ranges of accounts that you have, such as if expense account 123 is used, then only the fixed asset and value stream need to be filled or if expense account 456 is used then only worker, department or whatever you require needs to be filled.

Entering the transactions won't get slower because you could define dummy financial dimension values that default in case they are not needed. For you example this could mean that if expense account 123 is used, then the other financial dimensions that are not required are automatically filled with financial dimension values but this optional and you could also define that they are left blank.

In any case I would suggest that you report this issue on MS connect to get this shortcoming fixed in the next versions.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    HI ahmed.kimo,

Unfortunately, there is currently no workaround available other than merging the different account structures that you need for budget control. That's why it would be great if you could also report this in MS connect so that MS becomes aware of the importance of this issue.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Amr Esam,

In D365FO the issue is currently still the same.

That is, we can only use a single account structure for budget control.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
