Hi,

I need to install Visual Studio 2013 dev tools for AX 2012 R3 CU11.

Current system:

 1. AX 2012 R3 CU11 (Not slipstreamed).

 2. Visual studio 2013 premium.

 3. Window server 2012 R2 standard.

Note: Visual studio tools not installed

Issues facing

1. When trying to install VS tools using CU11 installer,

"The selected component not installed on computer"

2. Using AX 2012 R3 setup, error "Install supported version of Visual studio".

requesting you to share how to resolve this issue.

    Hi Krishna,

Do you have  update 2 installed for VS ?

    Hi Krishna

First off, you will not install Visual Studio Tools for Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2013, both at the same time, on the same machine. You will use one of them, depending on what version of AX2012 you are going to develop on.

Given you are aiming for CU11, it is the latest version you will be using; Visual Studio Tools for Visual Studio 2013.

Now the setup experience has split the two options, but will only allow you to install if prerequisites are in place.

If for example the previous version, VS Tools for 2010, is installed, then you need to run setup and remove the component before you continue.

    Read more about this here:

You run setup to remove VS Tools (the one for VS2010).

You run the updater to install the VS Tools for VS2013.

You didn't read the blog post here at all did you?

    Hi Tommy,

Prior to this post, I've read the pointed blog.

In my post I specified  Note: Visual studio tools not installed.

As I said, facing issues while trying to install VS tools using AX update installer.

(BTW, I don't want to update kernel or Application version. I need to install only VS tools.

Without selecting Binary/kernel, not getting option " VS 2013 dev tools" in Update installer.)

    Could you please guide me?

OK. Then I believe it is the updater you must run, and if it prevents you from installing the tools, there must be a missing prerequisite.

Please check to see if you have installed Report Viewer 2012 (www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx) <-- Don't use this link!

For more information, have a look at this post:

    www.linkedin.com/.../visual-studio-tools-microsoft-umesh-pandit

EDIT: I went back to my lab here. So the link to Report Viewer 2012 above is the wrong version.

    You need this one: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35747

Furthermore, VS 2013 needs at the minimum Update 4 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=44921

Also, I was wrong on running the updater. That is the previous experience. With AX2012 R3, you simply run setup. Sorry for the confusion.

If you do not see the VS for 2013 option running setup, I would double check to see if the slipstreamed install is correct. Check the "Updates" folder for the msi folder. You can download the full slipstream from LCS.

You setup for AX2012 R3 should show this:

    Hello,

    Already installed Report Viewer 2012.

Kindly suggest on issue of "The selected component not installed on computer", with update installer.

Read my previous reply. According to your screenshot, you're on Update 3 with VS2013. Please install either Update 4 or the latest update. I installed this with update 5 for VS2013 myself.

Thanks Tommy, for the kind information.

    I'm updating update4 for VS 2013.

    I didn't slipsteamed CU11 installation.

As you can see below, no option for VS 2013 dev tools in setup

    AX-Setup.png

Does it mean there is no way to install, separately VS tools. If the cumulative

    update is not slipstreamed.

Kindly share your experience to sort out this issue.
