Copy contract with contract lines to new account

Working with CRM 2011 Contract entity. I am using the copy button within the contract to copy the contract and changing the account to a new account however this does not reassociate all copied contract lines to the new account. What is the best way to accomplish reassigning the contract lines to the new account automatically.

Can you handle this via Workflows?

A workflow that monitors the change of the account and then copies the information to the new account it has been changed to.

I am fairly new to CRM and believe I will need to do this with a workflow/dialog however I am struggling with the right setup to get all the contract lines associated with a contract to move over. Any guidance as far as web resources or steps would be appreciated.

My thought is to have a dialog that asks for the contract to copy that is launched from the related contract screen of an account. This would display a list of all related contracts to copy then prompt the user to select an account to assign the new contract to. The issue I am having is getting the appropriate code to copy the contract and contract line values to a new contract from the contract that is selected. Much like the copy contract does.

My other thought is to have a workflow that runs behind the sceen once a new contract is created from an existing contract and change all associated contract lines however I am struggling with how to gather all the contract lines of the new contract.

    Jennifer,

Here is a video that will give you some more information regarding the creation of the workflow:

While this video is good it does not show how to get to the Contract Lines entity. I am quite comfortable with writing a workflow throught he GUI the issue is that you can not reach the contract lines entity so I can not create an update statememt withing the workflow to change the account on the contract lines.

    Jennifer,

Is there any chance you can send me a screenshot of the workflow you created?

I am not sure why you don't have access to the Contract Lines on the Contract Entity. Can you send me a few screenshots so I can better help you out?

I have tried many variations however Selecting Contract as the entity or Contract LIne as the entity you can not get to the Contract Line entity from update.

This is not possible without a custom plugin due to contract lines being unavailable through the UI to workflows and dialogs.

    Hello,

have the same Problem. I want to enable a bulk edit of contract lines via dialog. So I need access to the contract lines entity in the update function of the dialog editor.

It would be great, if you can tell me the name of the custom plugin that you mentioned below.

    Thanks a lot!

    Kind regars,

    kkob
