WIP Account - which transactions post to this account

Hi, I was hoping someone could tell me what is considered WIP inventory and which transaction types would post to the WIP account that is defined in the inventory posting setup. Is it only for manufacturing? I posted an assembly order and nothing posted to this account. Thank you.

    I forgot to mention that the above question is in the context of a Business Central Essentials license i.e. manufacturing is not being used.

    WIP is used for production orders. As you consume components, their regular inventory accounts are credited and WIP is debited. As you output finished items, their inventory accounts are debited and WIP is credited if expected cost is not turned on (with expected cost interim inventory is credited). When production orders are finished, WIP is cleared and dollars move to finished goods inventory (with expected cost interim inventory is cleared as well)

    Thanks so much Kim for clearing that up. I wasn't sure if any transactions other than mfg posting were involved e.g. purchase receiving or assemblies. I guess not. Thanks again.
