Marketing List Form: What goes into Source field?

I am new to crm and we are starting a marketing campaign.  As the support person I have been asked about the source box and why they can't enter a value into it.

I can't find out what is supposed to go into it.  It doesn't seem to be required for a campaign.

My question is what is this or where can I find out what this is?

 Thanks for any help.

 Ron C.

    Hi Ron,

Quoting the product itself, the description of the Source attribute is "Source of the marketing list". Not very informative, but I use it to describe the origin of the marketing list, such as Purchased, Convention, Business Cards etc.
By Default, this attribute is not business required and not read only. Perhaps this attribute has been marked 'read only' in your implementation and in such case, it can be easily restored.

You can usually find a short description of the 'vanilla' (not custom) attributes purpose in the attributes list for each entity. If you go to Settings -> customization -> customize entities -> Marketing list -> Attributes and look for the attribute in question.

    Hope this helps,

    Yaniv

    Yaniv,

Thanks for the informative response.  The problem was caused by the fact that we took our campaign response and made them leads.  I looked at the documentation and we should have manually entered them as campaign responses before making them leads.  Maybe there is a way to drag the response mail into the campaign, but it isn't obvious.

Thanks again for the response, I have a lot to learn.
