Hello All,

Is SQL Server 2016 SP2 Compatible with AX 2012 R3 CU13?

Do we have any documentation\Microsoft Link that discusses the compatibility of SQL Server 2016 SP2 with the DynamiscAX 2012 R3 CU13 release?

We see only this details:

Microsoft SQL Server 2016, Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition is supported with AX2012 R3 cumulative update 11 and Dynamics AX 2012 R2 cumulative update 9.

Service Pack 1 for Microsoft SQL Server 2016 is supported with the following updates: • Cumulative update 12 for AX 2012 R3 • Cumulative update 9 for AX2012 R2 with hotfix KB 3184754.

    Hi UMESH PANDIT,

If document you are referring to does not say anything about SP2 then it is not supported. To confirm I would open support request with MS.

Microsoft Support request for AX 2012 R3 CU13:

There is no official release date and information regarding the support of SQL server 2016 SP2 or SQL server 2017, so currently it is not supported.

@Umesh Pandit: Does your system run with with SQL 2016 SP2?

    Hi Guys,

we also got a little bit confused wether SP2 is supported or not.

We just asked the MS Support. This was their answer:

As Microsoft SQL-Server 2016 is a support database Management application, we will also support the new Service packs released for SQL Server 2016.

    About the System Requirement Guide:

Microsoft Quoted in the last release of the guide from September 2017 directly under the title:

This is the final planned list of system requirements as of September 2017. Microsoft does not plan to add support for additional products or product versions. However, new service packs and other updates of the currently supported product versions will still be supported.

So SP2 is supported with Dynamics AX 2012 R3 CU 13, and if there will be an SQL-Server Service Pack 3 it's also supported unless Microsoft denies it in the changelog of the upcoming AX CUs after the release of SQL Server SP2.

    Hi Guys,

we also got a little bit confused wether SP2 is supported or not.

We also asked the MS Support again.

    This was their answer:

There is no official release date and information regarding the support of SQL server 2016 SP2 or SQL server 2017, so currently it is not supported.

It technically/theoretically might be working with SP2 but there is no official statement or documentation stating that it’s supported.

@Andreas R. can you please send me the email of your MS Supporter?

I think you should not share emails of individual support engineers. If you need to contact support, just create a support request using normal channels.

    Hi Nikolaos

    Basically, I give you right.

However, if two official MS requests come with two totally different answers,

then it would make sense if those two supporters would discuss their differences.

Then it's better to have the support case ids of those two different answers, and then create a new request where the old case ids are mentioned.
