'Accounts I Follow' View not getting migrated with Unmanaged Solution

Hi Folks,

We are seeing some strange issue with migrating the 'Accounts I Follow' View on Account Entity. We have made some customizations on this View and migrating the changes to Target Org via Unmanaged Solution. However, the customizations for this specific View are not getting reflected in the Target environment (while the customizations on other Views of Account entity are getting migrated successfully, so there is nothing wrong with the deployment process being followed).

Is there anything different about this View which I may be missing?

One thing I observed (as suggested here) is that out of the box, CRM keeps two Views on Account entity ('Accounts I Follow' and 'Accounts Being Followed') as Unmanaged while the other default Views come as Managed, but that shouldn't be causing this issue since we are migrating the customizations as Unmanaged Solution only.

    Hey Ashish,

You could try to put the view alone in solution and move it to the target system by using the option "Overwrite customizations" when pushing your solution?

Another option is to use XRM Toolbox's "View Transfer Tool":

    Hi Loic,

Thanks for your response. I did try the approach to put the View in a separate solution and moving it to the Target Org but it didn't work. I didn't use the "Overwrite Customizations" option though, so I can give it a try.

Is there any reason why this specific View (and not other Views) would need an explicit "Overwrite Customizations" option?

In the past, I've had some view changes on my Resource Requirements entity not being pushed to the new system when I push my solution without overwriting.

In general, whenever an update on a view or form does not work, "Overwrite Customizations" does the trick. Most of the times someone has made changes in my target system to those objects which is why the update doesn't go through.

So either someone did a change in your target system to that view, or it's just Microsoft "Magic"!

As a matter of "Best Practice" whenever you have to make a change in your target system, also make the change in your development system, that way, when you push with "Overwrite Customizations", you don't loose anything.

    Hey again,

Did you manage to import your view?

    Hi Loic,

On further analysis, turned out that the 'Accounts I Follow' and 'Accounts Being Followed' Views are treated bit differently since these Views are driven by the Activity Feeds functionality. Hence any changes to these Views must be handled manually in the higher environment and it wont be part of the solution migration.

Although the follow views (e.g. Contacts I Follow, Contacts Being Followed) allow for customizations (see their managed properties), they do not get exported in solutions. You can create a solution with those views, export as managed, unzip the solution and search in the customizations.xml file and you'll see that they are simply not there. I solved the problem by making copies of the views (open the out-of-the-box view and "save as"). The copies work the same way as the out-of-the-box views in that they respect the follow feature and can be customized but they can also be exported and deployed to downstream environments.
