Child production orders created from a project production order are missing their project ID

Created a production order within a project.  The BoM on the production order identifies two subassemblies, both of which have a line type of Pegged supply and their Sub-BoM is identified.  When the parent production order is estimated and master planning run, child production orders are correctly created for the subassemblies.

However, the projectID field in the child production orders is not populated.  This means that the menu item and project Factbox item 'Project production orders' doesn't include the child production orders.  This makes it very difficult for a Project manager to keep a handle on all their production orders.

I suspect I missed a parameter somewhere but can't find it.

I don't think standard AX "pegs" consumption project down through the supply chain, though my thoughts could be clouded by my company's ISV added functionality. In fact, I don't think standard AX even populates the project/activity field when firming the MRP-planned order, only supports that through manual creation methods. We extend AX's basic project management functionality into the supply chain by adding project and activity (WBS element) as inventory and planning dimensions, so that the project ID cascades down through the planning system and materials are not just financially "owned" or consumed by the project, but are also hard allocated to the project and cannot be used for a different project without a reassignment.

You could try checking the "set subproduction to consumed" on your BOM line, though I still don't think this is going to give you what you want, the ability to "see" these orders from the project page.

Thanks for your response.  Somehow, in working through various production issues, I got this to work.  It does cascade the ProjectID as well as the Activity down to the child production order.  Seems to be standard R3 if you get the settings right.  Note that you say you are firming orders whereas with the functionality I'm using, no firming is required, the production orders are just automatically created when MRP runs.

    Thanks, though, appreciate it!

    Hi LTipper,

I need correct setup for this functionality working. Can you please list what's to be setup to move Project and ActivityId to sub-prodcutions?

    Thanks in advance.

    Arslan,

The capability to do this requires you to be able to do the following.  These steps are only possible if a costing sheet is not set up (i.e., you are NOT using standard costing):

     1.  On the Create production order form, ensure that the Project posting method is set to 'Consumed'.

     2.  Then, within the production order, open the BoM, and for each sub-assembly line, go to the Project tab and tick Production-consumed / Set subproduction to Consumed.

     3.  Once you estimate and run Master Planning (View / Explosion for example), the sub-production orders that are created will be populated with the ProjectID and Activity number entered into the parent production order.

    Hope this helps!!
