Are contacts receiving our emails twice or more?

Hello D365 Marketing community,

I have a question about Journeys. When targeting two or more Segments that might contain duplicate Contacts, is there a way to prevent these Contacts from receiving two or more emails?

Thanks!

    Hi Manuel,

If you have Bypass Email deduplication set to 'NO' in your marketing settings then, duplicate Contacts (with same email ID) will not receive same emails .

    MS reference: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/marketing/mkt-settings-default-marketing

    Hope this answers your question.

    Hi,

The option "Bypass email deduplication" is for the case that more than one contact record in the target segment has the same email address, which is different from "two or more Segments that might contain duplicate Contacts".

Suppose now there are two segments containing the same contact with this option set as Yes.

If they are in the same swimlane.

The email has been delivered to the contact only once.

And if they are in different swimlanes.

Although there will be two sent records, only one of them will be delivered.

Here are the descriptions of "Email sent" and "Email delivered".

So you do not need to worry about the duplicate delivery to the same contact in different segments.

Just a side note on this: deduplication only works in Outbound Marketing, and not for the "new" Real-Time Marketing journeys. So if you're about to embark on real-time - you have no way of avoiding duplicates (say, if you have duplicate contacts in your database).

How do I know which contact doesn't receive the email? I have duplicate contacts in my system which are connected to different accounts. If I want to use the company name as personalization in my marketing email, which company name will be used? Can I influence that?
