Inventory dimension Serial number is a primary input/output dimension and must consequently be specified

Hello,

We have two transfer order which can't be fully received. Both contains at least one item with a serial number which sems to be lost somehow.

The serial number was picked and shipped but upon receiving the goods in the destination service center, the error message popped saying the item is missing a serial number.

I can't see how we could make this item disappear other than by fiddling directl with the tables using x++.

Even trying to scap the item is not possible as this point. (which is odd, considering shipment of items canad to some items being damaged, thus scrapped along the way but this is another subject!)

If anyone has a suggestion, tip or even a vague pointer, please let me know

AX 2012 R3

Regards,

Eric

    Hi,

When you are posting the Receipt, can you use Inventory -> Registration? You can register each line before posting the receipt, adding in Inventory dimensions as appropriate.

    Hello Guy,

    Thanks for the reply.

I do see the serial number in that screen but still get the error message.

I try to auto-create the serial number but I get an error message saying its already exists.

Seems like a chicken and egg situation...

Feels like the order receiving process was short-circuited and did not rollback correctly

    Hi Eric,

It would appear that something has gone wrong in the posting of the shipment side of the transaction.  I would check the InventTrans and InventTransOrigin tables to trace through the history of the transactions related to the transfer order.  Here you can check to see that the InventDimid for the serial number is present correctly in each of these tables first.

    Hello Kauto,

Not sure how to interpret what I`m seeing...

In InventTrans, there are 4 lines with diffrent inventDimId for the culprit item; the last one refers to the inventDim record which has the serial number. I take the inventTransOriginId for this inventTrans line and look it up, in inventTransOrigin the corresponding record has a different inventDimId.

However it seems to be the case for any other inventTrans lines that I checked.

Since I have a copy of the PROD I'll just try to force the inventDimId in the inventTransOrigin record with a x++ job to see what happens.

    Hello again Kauto,

Forcing the inventDimId into the inventTransOrigin record did not work. Still getting the error message and the posting code is untraceable as it enters runOnServer methods. I try to change the class to use the run on client version but I loose the trace further away and still the error message.

    Very puzzling situation.

Hopefully bumping this thread will draw somenone's attention who may have encounter a similar issue.

    Regards,

    Eric
