Batch ID Naming Conventions

We are having trouble with creating unique batch ID's for batches from within GP.   We use multi-entity management and are trying to use the batch ID to help identify the type of transactions that are contained in them.   Anyone have an idea that they use that makes the batch unique?   The reason why we are trying to come up with something is because we have had batches merged together in select check process and users are able to print additional checks even if they were not a part of the original selection and approval process.

    We have one of our clients using the users initials plus date plus entity with MEM. We even have a little VBA code that always enters this so the users never have to think about the batch ID.

    Hi,

    I like Richard's idea. I have clients that go one step further and identify what kind of entry it is (payables, PO Inv match, etc.) There a 15 characters to use, just be sure no two people use the same initials. We also determine the batch number using VBA.
