Dynamics vs Static Marketing Lists

Hi All,

My understanding of Dynamic vs Static marketing list is that the contents of a Dynamic list will automatically change depending on the query configured.

However, my question is:

If we create a campaign and add a Dynamic marketing list with 10 contacts> Activate and send the campaign.

If we then added 5 additional contacts to the Dynamic marketing list.  Will the campaign that has already run,  send the campaign contents to the additional 5 contacts?

Thanks all

    Hi Wayne,

I haven't tested that specifically, but I'm 99.9999% sure that contacts who come back in your query will not receive the older emails when they join. It would be unusable if that happened because all of your old campaigns would always be sending out emails. On top of that, every new contact could get the last X years worth of email campaigns all at once. If that were the behavior there would've been a massive outcry until it was fixed.

Hope this helps! I'd appreciate if you'd mark this as Answering your question.

    Thanks,

    Aiden

    Hi Aiden,

That makes perfect sense, thanks.  This is probably equally a silly question but what is the main reason for the campaign start and finish date?

    Hi Wayne,

(slightly embarrassingly) I don't know what it's for. I did a quick search and couldn't find any details either.

    Sorry.

    Hi Wayne,

In SDK "A campaign represents a container for campaign activities and responses, sales literature, products, and lists to create, plan, execute, and track the results of a specific marketing campaign through its life. " (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg309509(v=crm.7).aspx)

A campaign has multiple "campaign activities" that waiting or distributed. In SDK "A campaign activity represents a step in a campaign with owner, partner, budget, timelines, and other information. Campaign activities can be created for planning and running a campaign. " (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg328351(v=crm.7).aspx)

"Marketing list" records are actually related with campaign activities and if you associated a dynamic marketing list with a campaign activity (exp. Phonecall) and distribute your campaign activity, CRM will be create phonecall to current account or contact list inside your marketing list.

If you will add a new record (contact / account) that related with your "dynamic marketing list filters" (such as City = Istanbul) and create a new campaign activity, your marketing list may associated with new campaign activity and when you distribute that dynamic marketing list filtre re-run.
