Multiple quantity of item- Manually creating serial numbers during RAF + Automatic assignment during picking/packing slip

Hi Guys,

I have a requirement to assign serial numbers to the finished goods during report as finished (RAF) but the client wants to maintain its own serial numbers which are not in sequence (they maintain some random numbers depending on the production line etc. ). After that these numbers should be assigned automatically during sales process. It works fine if the quantity is one, how to handle this case in case of multiple quantity scenario:

In other words:

Production

1. Maintaining serial numbers in the system for 10 quantity

2. Assigning the numbers during RAF ( I am not able to find this one)

Sales Orders

1. Assigning serial numbers automatically during picking/packing.

Hoping for some solution from the experts.

Set an item model group that requires registration, and register the serial numbers in the production order prior to RAF.  You'll need a serial number group that is set to manual, and a tracking dimension group with Serial Number active, but without Serial Number Control activated.

    Thanks for your reply.

I tried to follow the steps. While i am doing the registration of items during RAF and creating serial numbers, it is giving me this screen. I still cannot enter my own serial numbers. As per AX, it has to be in sequence. But my client wants to enter some random serial numbers (which are maintained in their factory).

I have another question, what is the difference between 'serial number active' and 'serial number controlled'?

You need to set a number sequence for serial numbers that is manual, not auto.  That is why you can't enter your own serial numbers.

Serial # active means the serial number tracking dimension is in use.  Serial Number Control means serial numbers can only be for a qty of 1.

I set it up for manual number serial number. Then I create the serial numbers manually in serial number form in inventory & warehouse management module. During RAF, I have to split lines one by one and attach respective serial numbers to each line. Is it the right approach?

That works.  You could also look at Production Order -> Update Registrations or use the Arrival Overview screen.

During RAF there is an inventory button at bottom, go to registration.

Here you can create serial numbers either sequentially or one-by-one.

In this example I have split 31 into 5 and 26.  I can now use two formats for the items.  If I have a one-off I will need to split the 26 into 25 and 1.  Don't use auto-create and register as this makes the items pickable in warehouse.
