Which SQL Server Version is required for On-premises implementation?

Hi All,

I would like to know which versions of SQL Server are supported for Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations On-premises implementation. From what I read from the Software and Hardware requirement document for D365 FOE On-premise implementation, it says:

● Only 64-bit versions of SQL Server 2016 SP1 are supported.

Does it mean that all 64-bit versions of SQL Server SP1 are supported? That could be SQL Server 2014 SP1 as well. Or does it mean that it specifically requires 64-bit version of SQL Server 2016 SP1 only?

The reason I am asking this is one of our clients is planning to move to D365 FOE. However, the cost to upgrade from SQL Server 2014 SP1 to SQL Server 2016 is way too huge. Hoping to get some clarification.

Thanks,

Malik Munawar Ahmed

The documentation clearly states software requirements for the database server:

    [View:https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/unified-operations/dev-itpro/get-started/system-requirements#software-requirements-for-database-servers:750:50]

Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition

And on top of that you need the 64-bit version.

We have software assurance purchased with our SQL Server Enterprise Edition, which means we could upgrade from AX 2012 to 2014 and now 2016 with no additional cost I believe. If your customer is not on such a licensing scheme, then they have to invest in those licenses indeed.

Hi, Is SQL Server 2017 (14.0.3023.8 (CU5)) officially supported?
