Issue with lookup of customers

We are on GP 2010 sp2, but I have had this issue since the upgrade from GP 9.  This problem seems to only be related to me and no other users and only in one of our eight companies.  I can also say that our ISV has the same issue and could not find a solution.

Anywhere I go within GP where I need to lookup a customer (whether it be customer card, cash receipt, transaction entry, sales transaction entry, apply, etc), if I type in the beginning of the customer name, then use the lookup function, GP opens the window Customers and Prospects, but at the beginning of the list instead of based on the letters I typed in the previous window.  So, if I have received cash from XYZ company for the first time, when I type XYZ into the cash receipts entry field Customer ID , no company names appear in a list format (which I expect because this is the first transaction for this customer), so I then click on the magnifying glass which opens up the Customers and Prospects window, but the window opens at the first customer instead of near the end based off me typing in XYZ in the cash receipts window.  On the Customers and Prospects window, I can type in XYZ  in the field Find by Customer ID and it works at this point (ie, the window will go to XYZ customer id).

This issue only relates to one company in our system and worked fine in GP 9.

This lookup issue only relates to customers/sales side (ie, inventory, fixed assets, payables/vendors, banking lookup function works).

Has anyone else seen this and resolved?  If yes, can you share how you resolved it?

Best regards,

Dale

Mine is working perfectly, but then on the bottom near the scolling arrows it is doing the lookup based on Customer ID

I can replicate the situation.  I had vba against my Customer lookup window that forced the sort to be by Customer Name.  Therefore it wasn't finding XYZ.

The other scenario where I see this is that I have set my default view to be based on a favorite.  The Order By in my SmartList favorite is Customer Name.  Therefore it wasn't finding XYZ.

This is the normal operation of GP.  Anything typed into the value field before clicking the lookup is not transferred to the lookup.

There are some third party products (Rockwell has one) that works around this and that may be installed on some of your workstations but not all.

    Richard,

I still believe that this is not normal operation in GP.  It worked fine prior to the upgrade from GP 9 to GP 2010 sp1, the lookup function works today for all other companies (we have 8 companies), and it works for all other subledgers (ie, payables, inventory, banking).  Our ISV helpdesk is having the same issue for customers only.

We only have one 3rd party product and have had that one for over 12 years and it is not tied to the customer side.  When we upgraded to GP 2010 sp1, all computers were synced by our ISV so that we all have the same things loaded.  All other computers lookup function works related to customer lookup except mine.

    Best regards,

    Dale

I have been playing with this since the original posting.  I seem to have a couple of customers that work as you want and a couple that do not.......sigh....Isn't software wonderful?

What ODBC driver are you using?  Is it the same one as other workstations?  (SQL NATIVE CLIENT should be used)

Are all of the options of the DSN the same?

    ODBC Driver Manager is 03.52.0000

    ODBC Drive is 10.00.1600

As far as SQL Native Client and DSN, I am not tech savvy, so I do not understand those questions.  When our ISV upgraded us, he created 3 macros to upgrade our computers.  He ran each on everyone's machines, so I know we all have the same format.

Some of us are on XP (like myself) and others are on Windows 7.  The lookup function works for the other person who is on XP.

Dale - did you look at the reasons I posted for why this might be happening?

In this version, users can set their preferences for lookups.  If it is only happening in one company to a single user, then the most logical reason is that you specific settings for customer lookup are stopping it from happening.

    Heather,

How can I tell?  When I use the lookup (ie, the Customer and Prospects window is open) and I use the drop down arrow to the left of View, All Customers is checked.  I just changed it to use Exclude Inactive, but that did not help.  Is there somewhere else that I need to look to tell if another preference is preventing me from having the lookup funciton work the way I need it to?

    Thanks,

    Dale

    Hi Dale

The description next to the view drop down when you first look up is the clue.  When mine says:  View:  All Customers; by Customer ID it works.

If the description is saying View: Restricted List - then it is reliant on a SmartList favourite.  And the sort order in the favourite determines how it works.  So even if it says Restricted List; by Customer ID, the Smartlist sort will override.

If it doesn't work with this sort, then you need to look at the window heading to see if there has been a modification.  If there is a dot either in front or behind of the Customer and Prospects window heading then the window is modified.  You can use vba to permanently sort by Name, in which case the look up won't work.

Let me know how you get on.

    Heather
