SSRS using Stored Procedures

ReportReport
Posted on by 1,290

I have creted a simple SSRS report and deployed it just fine usign the CRM.  Now I want to create a more complex report and will have to use a stored precedure.  Should create the SP in the CRM DB or should I create a 'custom' DB?  If I create a new DB how would I set up permissions so that the report can be run from the CRM?

Thanks.

If you need to create a custom report. Import the custom RDL file that reads the data from the CRM database. I don't think you need to create a separate, custom DB to utilize a custom report.

The issue is that I needed to create a stored precedure to based the report on and I was told not to put the SP in the CRM DB.  I foung a suggestin on another forum that worked.  I did create a custom DB that will be the place where my new SPs live.  I granted the permisisons that I need and it's working great.  Thanks.

    Hi Joe,

I have the same scenario...custom data warehouse with a stored procedure being used in the SSRS Report.  I am wondering what permissions you granted and for which users to the custom stored procedure in the custom DB.

    Thanks.

It was quite easy, actually.  Create your custom DB.  Create your SP that returns the data for the report.  Grant the logins based on domains that are created automatically permission to the custom DB.  They are called something like ReportingGroup, PrivReportingGroup and SQLAccessGroup.  Create your SSRS report.  Create the RDL file.  Add the report to the CRM in the reports section.  You'll be good to go.

    Hi Joe,

I assume you can't use pre-filtering if your using SPs?
