Hi,

I am new to Microsoft Dynamics and we are using NAV 2017 with LS-Retail, so forgive me if my questions are things too obvious for you . I need your help on a few questions I have regarding transfer orders, transfer shipments purchase orders and their statuses.

1. What is the difference between a transfer order and a transfer shipment?

2. What is the difference between statuses in Purchase orders and Transfer Orders Open, Released and Posted and how does each affect inventory?

3. What happens to the inventory if you delete open or released transfer order?

Thanks,

Nick

When you want to transfer a product from a location to another location you create a transfer order from location - to location, and the first step for you transfer is to ship it , which will create a transfer shipment and moves the inventory to a in-transit location, until the To location is ready to receive it.

When you create order the order will be in Open status, the Release status is the indicator for the warehouse that all data entry is complete and its ready to ship or receive, once you ship or receipt the order, it creates shipment or receipt and then deletes the order, so there is no status called Posted.

If you delete a open or released document nothing happens to the inventory.
