So, we have a dynamics on prem v8.2 that we want to update to 9.0 (as a first step towards 9.1).
Many years ago we had a databaseserver called db1 which we installed the databases on etc. Then, a few years ago, we installed a new database server, copied the databases and made all the necessary adjustments in the registry of the webserver and in the database tables in mscrm_config. Since then the dynamics application has been running as it should.
Today, when I run the server setup to upgrade the Dynamics Installation I get an error that it can't find the SQL Server instance. This error occurs after the installation program has installed the necessary prerequisites.
Now, if I open the deployment manager, go to "Organizations" and check the "Properties" of my organization I can see that in the field "SQL Server" it is still pointing to our oldest, obsolete, database server. Even though if I check "Servers" in Deployment Manager everything looks correct.
The database table [MSCRM_CONFIG].[dbo].[Server] seems to be the one which contains the data shown in "Servers" in Deployment Manager. But where the heck is the value stored in the field "SQL Server" in the organization properties fetched from?
My suspicion is that this is why it cannot find the sql server instance hence, when I get to the next step to select org to upgrade, there is nothing to select in the dropdown.
If anyone knows how to change this value I'd be most happy!
Found it! I was too tired after spending too much time with this.
The setting is in the column "Organization" (which sounds reasonable :)
