Is it possible to pin a note to Timeline so it is always visible when a client's Timeline is accessed?

Posted on by 85

Hello all,

Our users would like to be able to pin a note to the Timeline functionality for a client so that the note always appears at the top of the list whenever Timeline is accessed for the client in question.

For example, the pinned note could say something like:

  • When contacting business owner, please make sure to also contact co-owner\business partner as well
  • When organising an appointment with client, please also call another party to invite him\her to the appointment as well
  • Etc

That way, it is readily visible as the very first thing users see when accessing a client's Timeline activities irrespective of the chronology of activities.

In addition to being the very first thing that appears when accessing a client's Timeline activities, our users would like to be able to change the originally-pinned note to another (eg, if the client's circumstances change, etc) and\or delete it (eg, if there is no need for a note to be visible immediately when the client's Timeline is accessed).

Accordingly, has anyone ever used Timeline to implement something similar using a note activity or another activity altogether (eg, Post, etc)? Also, are there other means to implement this request if Timeline cannot accommodate this request?

Cheers,

Michael

    Hi Jupiter,

Thank you for your suggestion to register this as an idea. As it so happens, it was already suggested by someone else early Oct 2020 so I voted for it.

Going back to my original question though, what I asked for is therefore not currently possible and as someone else suggested for it to be an idea to be implemented, it is therefore not (yet) an OOB functionality.

As an alternative though, would you say that a dedicated free form text field labeled as "Important Note" and positioned above the Timeline, could fulfill the same purpose as what I am looking at implementing?

    Cheers,

    Michael

    Hi Michael,

I would like to share a very helpful Ideas portal  <experience.dynamics.com/.../  >. Product group closely monitors this portal for direct feedback and comments on the features on Dynamics 365 from users around the globe.

I would request you to please submit an idea about this behavior and share with your colleagues/organization to get votes. Higher the vote you receive on the idea you submitted, higher is the chance of that being implemented in the future updates/releases.
