User interaction on forms

I have a question regarding the usage of the user interface of Dynamics 365 for Operation (aka AX 7).

It's a simple, maybe stupid question but I can't find an answer on the Web nor in AX Help Wiki.

The question is about Edit Mode and View Mode and Save Button, and the user interaction applicable.

When I first open a form, it is usually opened in view mode. Let's say I navigate from main menu to

System administration > Users > Users

where I see the list of users. Initially the form (list page) opens in view mode, the lines are not ediable, in the "Tooltip line" I see the hint 'Click the edit button to make changes'. When I do this the form switches to edit mode. Now I could edit the fields directly in the grid, in-line. Fine!

However, what to do if I want to switch back to view mode. Let's assume I've unintentionally switched to edit mode, and simply want to switch back to view mode without making changes. Is there any button or way to do this? I miss something like a [View] button in edit mode which I can click to switch back to view mode if I'm in edit mode.

I mean we had something like this in Dynamics AX 2012 (... even if not present by default on a form, there was a possibility to switch between the modes.)

The only way to switch back to view mode seems to be to completely close the form and reopen it, which is a bit cumbersome... right?

And what about aborting in case I made some changes by mistake? For example, I made a simple user name change and tried to cancel it without saving.

I tried both the "Close" button [x] on the right side and the browser page back button, nothing helped, the change in error persisted after closing and reopening the list form. Just as if I had clicked the [Save] button. There is no [Cancel] button nor the like.

Please can anyone explain to me how the user interaction concept works here. I don't understand it...

Many thanks in advance.

You can switch back to the view mode by going to Options in action pane. On the right, there is the Read mode button.

To leave the form without saving, press Alt+Shift+Q. I'm not aware of any button for it.

    Martin,

thanks for the help. Alt+Shift+Q for aborting works well, thanks. Although I really miss a button for this... wondering if a business user will be able to remember this weird hotkey combination after a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately, I don't see any 'Read mode' button in my OPTIONS action pane. Have to check if it is a permission issue.

You'll only see the 'Read mode' within the Edit section of the Options tab when you are in 'Edit' mode.

Thanks for the clarification. I was able to verify it. It is as you describe: the option is only available in Edit mode.
