Multiple Bulk Bin Sites in Manufacturing

Posted on by 215

Hi ,

I have a customer that has a number of bulk bins that have been set up as separate physical locations. Is there any way for the production run to draw inventory across these multiple bins instead of having to transfer the stock to a central bin for production purposes?

MRP will consider the quantity available while calculating from all site.  You need to give order policy on item level.  Please refer following KB regarding order policy.

But is this a manual selection or will it automatically be able to select the next site during MRP?

Yes when you select the site it will show how much balance available accordingly you can select the same.

    Thanks Babu.

Basically what I would like to do is be able to draw from Site A until zero quantity and then it should start drawing from Site B etc until the production qty has been filled.

    Hi Claire,

If I understand correctly you have 3 sites in GP and you wanted to use inventory from this site.  If that is the case you can change the site while doing the transaction so you pick up the correct site.  BIN comes under site.  The following is details of multiple bin

    Multiple bins in Inventory Control

Use multiple bins to add a layer to item quantity tracking for items with the Sales Inventory or Discontinued item type. Besides tracking items within inventory sites, with multiple bins you can track item quantities in bins that reside within each site. Bin quantities are processed and displayed in the item’s base unit of measure.

Default bins for transaction types at each site can be identified. For example, a default bin could be created for sales order transactions at your warehouse site. Default bins can also be identified for a particular item and transaction type at a site. If you always use Bin A when selling a certain item from your main site, for example, you can set up Bin A as the default sales order bin for the item at the main site.

When you enter a transaction, the default bin for the transaction type for the item-site combination or the site is used automatically. In most cases, if there isn’t a default bin for the item-site combination or the site, you can enter a bin.

    Hi Babu,

Thank you for the response. The setup that I have is that these are 3 physical separate locations and set up as sites rather than bins in GP. Would I have to convert these to bins in order to make your suggestion work?

    Hi Claire,

If you enable multiple bin you can draw the inventory from where ever you want.
