Remove site assignment from items (bulk)

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have a series of items assigned to a site that no longer need to be there. There are about 8,000 items. How can I safely “unassign” those items from the site? Delete the records from IV00102? Current on-hand inventory is 0 for all items so the deletions shouldn’t affect the overall record for an item. Is that how that would be handled? Thanks.

    Hi Mahmoud,

1.I have to delete three sites,

2.Those three sites are assigned to several items in item quantities window,

3.what i have to do is to delete all the items from IV00102 which is assigned to the three sites.

    4. finally i can delete the site.

am i missing out something here?

    Mahmoud,

Thank you for your kind words. I agree with you. The SQL approach in this case yields a better result!

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

I definitely agree, and for that I provided a script for such purpose as part of the data cleansing series

If the site was created accidentally, and all items were assigned to it, but no transactions ever posted using the item-site combo, it should be safe to delete the assignments.  Would you agree?

I will "humbly" disagree with one of my idols, Ms. Leslie.

Regardless of the fact that the "current balance" is zero, I would never recommend deleting the assignment on the Quantity-Site window, since all records in Purchase receipt layers work and detail will be deleted (IV10200 and IV10201), leaving Historical table (IV30300) and HITB (SEE30303).

For control purposes, you could delete the record from IV00102 (Item Site assignment) in order to prevent any further transactions on the item.

Otherwise; to me, I would never even think about pushing the delete button.

    JBright01,

That's the approach I would probably take, but the safe method would be to write a macro that entered the item and site in the Item Quantity window and then pushed the Delete button. So, my official recommendation is to use the Mail Merge macro approach to ensure all of the business logic is used. I don't know what other modules you have that may be impacted by this.

    Kind regards

    Leslie
