GP2010 PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS

Posted on by 35

Recently our company migrated from GP 10.0 to GP 11.0 SP2 and we are now experimenting performance problems. We run GP 11.0 SP2 French and English on Windows 7 workstation and Windows Server 2008 Terminal Server.

When lauching or working into GP 11.0 SP2 it keeps on getting "Not Responding" and it's fastidious to be working on.

Our server hardware is brand new and running on XEON E5620 2.40Ghz with 12Gb of RAM and SCSI harddrives. So the hardware should not be any incovenient.

The server software is Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SQL Server 2008 R2.

I read the KB898982 concerning "You experience slow performance when you perform specific processes in Microsoft Dynamics GP"  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898982

Nothing is helping out with our situation.

Anyone knows if there is an incompatibility issue between Windows 7 and GP 11.0 SP2?

When we use to be working with GP on a Windows XP platform, the software was responding quickly. We made a major investment for this solution to perform quicker in our business but now we are in a situation where this is not very helpful.

Any suggestions, ideas?

    Bonjour Martin,

Was your GP10 implemented as a fresh installation or an upgrade from a previous version of GP (8.x or 9.0) ? If it was not a fresh setup, I'd suggest to have a look at this blog post from David :

    blogs.msdn.com/.../information-about-using-v10-0-security-conversion-tool.aspx

I ran into performance issues in 2009 when taking over a GP10 installation that was recently upgraded from a GP 9.0 configuration. It took users between 3-6 minutes to get into GP, whereas that login process shouldn't go above 60-90 secs.

My second suggestion goes towards your GP client : is there eventually an MS Communicator client (i.e. Lync) installed on the Terminal server ?  in GP11.x, the client looks for the presence of a communicator client and fires it up, before allowing to user to even get to the login / password entry of GP. The delay can account for almost a full minute or two.

    Bonne chance,

First log into GP on your server. Is the speed there what you expect? If so, go back to your workstation and choose a different SQL client for your DSN. I have seen sometimes where the older clients give better performance.

The first thing I would check is the OLEPath in DEX.ini.

    OLEPath=\\MyServer\MyOLENotes\

    Hope this helps.
