Workflow to update field from account to all child contacts.

Hi All,

I have accounts which have many contacts.

I have a field called "B2B" that is present on both the Account and Contact form.

I need to run a workflow that will set the set the B2B field on the contacts to whatever it is on the parent account.

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks

    Paddy365,

Please see the others suggestion to find tools that may be able to do this.

But remember that if you are going for a 3rd party solution, ensure that you know what it does, how the future releases will work with it, etc. etc.

It may work in the short term, but do take precaution to ensure that it does not become a problem in the future.

    Happy CRMing! :)

    Hi,

You may try  one of these solutions:

    1. crmtipoftheday.com/.../update-related-records-with-a-workflow

    2. community.dynamics.com/.../executing-workflows-on-complex-relationships-1-to-many-and-many-to-many

OK, I tried to import the solution but got this error, any ideas.

    Thanks again

    Hi,

no , as you can see the account id is dynamically pass in. So , it will work for every accounts, as long as the account is trigger the workflow.

    Hi,

Many thanks for your reply but am I correct in saying that this solution will only work for one account at a time.

    Thanks

    Hi Shidin,

Unfortunately I do not have any development expertise so I can follow your suggestion.

Can this be done without development like using a workflow or maybe some knows of a custom workflow that's free?

    Thanks,

    Paddy

    Hi Paddy365,

To achieve the above business requirement, you would need to do custom coding, such as development your own piece of code, which would do the following:

    1. On Update of the 'b2b' field on the Account record, retrieve all the child Contact records.

    2. Update each of the child Contact records' 'b2b' field.

I would suggest developing a Plugin to be executed on the PostOperation of an Account record.

    Filtering attribute: 'b2b'

Here is a forum thread which helps you to get started with Plugin Development.

Please note: you would need Visual Studio and a little bit of developer knowledge.

Feel free to ask for help along specific points.
