Is there any documentation/instructions anywhere regarding the upgrade path from Dynamics SL 7.0 to SL 2011SP2? I'm trying to make sure if you need to install the FP1 on server and workstations first before installing SP2.

Yes, you need to have SL2011FP1 installed before you can apply SL2011SP2.  Page 18 of the Install Guide explains this pre-requisite for upgrade installations.

OK. If I go the route of installation on a new server do I still need to install FP1 or is there a way to install a fresh SP2 on the new server and then backup and restore the data on to that? Then do the DB maintenance to upgrade.

SP2 is a service pack only, and not a full version of SL2011.  SL2011FP1 must first be installed no matter what type of installation you are performing.

You need to first install FP1, then install sp2.

After sp2 is installed you should run the DB upgrade.

There is NO need to upgrade the DB to fp1, then to SP2.  I hope that helps.
