Hi,

I was wondering,How can I improve the performance of MS CRM?Should I encourage Client Side scripting or Server side coding? What are the thumb rules I should follow?

How can I verify whether a performance has improved on not?Are there any tools available?

    Hi,

First you need to establish where your bottle neck is with respect to performance. It could be client or server or network related. Internet explorer has network, script and memory profiling tools that are designed specifically for doing this. Press F12 and you can see the network tab will allow you to trace the requests that are taking the longest. Check that static files and web resources are being cached correctly. Switch over to the script tab and look for long running functions.

With respect to best practice, it is hard to generalize buy the SDK does a good job - msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg509027.aspx

If you are on prem you can use the performance counters and bpa - www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

For general advice see - www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

    Hope this helps,

    Scott

    a good question

as a general rule, complex customization which needs values from multiple entities and will need to quite a bit of retrieving I would do in a plugin/custom workflow.

The performance customer complain about the most is form loading times.

you can reduce this by having less subgrids on a form

moving functionality from Javascript onload to a field onchange.

Tabs in a collapsed state and trigger javascript onexpanding of the tab

Testing the speed of Javascript you can do with fiddler

Just to add one more thing to measure performance of an individual  Form

MS CRM has hidden feature that shows form performance by pressing  : CTRL+SHIFT+Q

you find more on this  here
