Spitting Released Production order and posting Backward flushing Work centres

Hi All,

We currently post released prod orders with all components set as Manual Flushing and Work Centres set as backward flushing. In order to post both components and WC's we normally open the production jnl and post all components initially and then just 'finish' the prod order (change status) to post the output entries to calculate the WC costs and everything is fine.

However we now want to be able to split the Released order into separate lines so for example header qty 10 but now 2 lines of qty 5. So i refresh the order (components and routings only and not lines) and once again post the jnl to consume the component items.

However the line is still showing as unfinished qty 2 as the WC's have yet to be posted. However as they have been set as backward flushing, (as far as i can tell) it isn't possible to post these entries via the jnl and will only update the released order line entry to finish qty 2 once i have finished (change status) the full released prod order - which is not what we want as still qty of 2 still to be finished. Is there a way to post the WCs if set as backward? I have tried changing to Manual but this means the capacity / costs all need to be entered manually before i can post the jnl which again is not what we want.

I can see on the routings page there is a Routing status and i have changed to Finished but this doesn't appear to done much

I can also see on the jnl there is a Finished Boolean but again once set as TRUE doesn't allow me to post.

Am i missing something?

Thanks and TIA

Andy

    Hi Ben,

Thanks your response.. I can change the output qty for the WC entries and i did change this to '2' during testing , but then when i posted the jnl it just shows output '2' but no other value entries for the WC's.  Currenty all 5 WC's which have backward flushing have output 0 for all lines as BC is just expecting the capacity/costs to be posted once i change status.

    Andy,

Backflushing is generally tied to Output.  In the case of BOM the Routing Link Code links the components to the Routing Operation.  As you post Output for the specific Routing Operation it backflushes the components needed to accomplish that Output Qty.  I imagine (haven't tested) posting Output for the Operation will backward flush the Router time for that Operation.

However, in the case of components if no Routing Link Code is Used the backflush doesn't occur until the Prod. Order is Finished.  This may be the case with Capacity Flushing as well.  Again, I would have to test, but I would suggest posting the Output of an Operation to see if it flushes any capacity cost.

The advantage the components have is you define a "Quantity Per", with capacity the Run Time is closest to this for time, but may not be treated the same for Backflushing.

This would be fairly easy to test (in a test company/sandbox).

P.S. You don't have to split the Prod. Order Line to do partial Outputs.  You can change the Output quantity in the Production Journal.
