Depreciation profile - AX2009

I currently have some fixed asset accounts set up to reducing balance 30%.  We will be making some changed to he company and getting rid of many of these assets in the next 6 months.  Under the current depreciation method, it will continue to depreciation 30% and then write off the balance at the last month.  I don't want this.  I want to smooth the depreciation over six months...so that at the end of the 6 months the NBV is zero.  Is there any way to do this?  Do I have to switch to straight line...and if yes..how?

Thanks

Joe

    Hi Joe,

What do you mean exactly by saying that you want to smooth the depreciation over six month?

Can't you simply make a one time depreciation for example by scrapping those fixed assets?

How many fixed assets are affected by this?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi

The NBV in total for all these assets is $600,000. I want these asset to be depreciated over the next 6 month. $100,000 per month.  Per the current method of 30% reducing balance it would be $15,000 per month for 5 months and then take a huge hit of $525,000 on the last month.

I want to smooth it out over the next 6 months...how can I do this?

    Hi Joe,

How many assets are affected by this (5, 10, 500...)?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi joebongiorno,

    I would do this manually.

We talk about 6x120 = 720 posting lines. This should not take you more than 1 hr to get them prepared and posted.

I think any other alternative option will take you more than 1 hr

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

What do you mean manually?  I run the depreciation proposal and then I go in and change each line item to the amount I want.  The problem is that I have 120 assets do depreciate quickly...but the depreciation for each is  different amounts.  I would have to manually calculate what each amount should be.  As well, I have over 3000 assets that get depreciated every month.  I would have to go in to this entry and find just the ones I want to fast depreciate.  It would be very time consuming to do this.  And  I have to do this for 6 months

    Is there any other way?

    Thanks

    Hi,

The fastest way would be to ask a developer to fill you the depreciation journal through a job. Yet, I still believe that the manual way is faster because you can record the 720 depreciation lines and post them already for the future periods. They will thus have a NBV of $0 and will not be picked up in your depreciation proposals.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
