Tools available for AX Batch Job Monitoring - Advice required

Hi All,

I am looking for a thirty party tool / AX tools which can be used for monitoring batch jobs & their status. The tool has alert the user group if the batch job fails, if the execution time is more than the regular execution time etc., based on parameters defined.

We are currently manually monitoring 400 batch jobs. I would like to automate this process. Can anyone suggest your ideas on this please.

Thanks in Advance.

Regards

Vikram

System Center Operations Manager has some batch monitoring out-of-the-box in the AX Management Pack.

Some time ago I wrote a SCOM package as well, which used PowerShell and Business Connector to connect to AX, and read out information for the Batch* tables. I could put together a very neat SCOM report of batch jobs failed, or batces which have been executing longer than usual.

If you do not have SCOM in your environment, you could still extract some useful information using PowerShell either via Business Connector, or via ODBC directly from your AX SQL Database, and compose it to a reportable format like list of batches with errors in the last 24 hours, batches that are executing which takes longer than the past 5 executions, etc.

It is just a simple exercise of reading out data from the tables that you already have, and applying your logic on top of it to make something meaningful out as per your business requirements.

You may be able to do the same with SQL server jobs as well, though that is not as advanced as using PowerShell.

All of the above have been tried and are effectively in use by us, otherwise I would not have suggested them. So, yes.

    Hi Vikram/Martin.

I am facing same issue, having around 250+ batch jobs and needs to be monitored manually.

Have you come across the solution ?

Please let me know , I am newbie in powershell.

    Regards,

    Dipak.
